DENSOLEN® butyl rubber tapes
Cold applied, self-adhesive synthetic tapes for
corrosion protection coating of pipes, tanks and
plant and also for the insulation of electrical
installations. DENSOLEN® butyl rubber tapes are
cold applied synthetic tapes with overstretch
prevention layer in polyethylene and butyl
rubber coating on both sides.
The types of tapes differ in tape thickness,
color and resistance to temperature. DENSOLEN®
butyl rubber tapes self-amalgamate in
the
overlap area to form a sleeve-like, waterproof
and electrically highly insulating coating.
Their suppleness means that DENSOLEN® butyl
rubber tapes conform particularly well to the
underlying layer.
Areas of use:
Corrosion protection
• For the coating of above-ground installations
• As an inner wrap for the corrosion protection
of metallic pipes (longitudinal and helical seam
welded), welded joints, tanks and plant. Used in
combination with DENSOLEN®- PE tapes (2-ply
synthetic tapes) as an outer wrap.
• As a corrosion protection coating for metallic
pipes laid in walls or floors in house
installations (N-tapes). Corrosion protection
coating for pressfitting systems (N-tapes).

DENSOLEN®
DENSOLEN® tapes and tape systems have been used
for more than 40 years to provide long-term
corrosion protection for buried pipes, welded
joints, pipe bends and structural elements.
The invention of the first three-ply composite
tape (DENSOLEN®-Tape S40) by DENSO in 1971 was
followed about 10 years later by further
development to produce the asymmetrical
three-ply tapes mainly used today. DENSOLEN®
tape systems have been used very successfully in
large-scale pipeline construction and in
pipeline renovation since 1971. Thanks to
constant improvement and the use of modern
polyethylene materials, DENSOLEN® tape systems
even today represent the state of the art in
corrosion protection composite tape.
DENSOLEN® tapes can be combined in various ways
to make tape systems. All systems have in common
that a self-amalgamating three-ply tape or a
butyl tape is always used for the innermost
layer of corrosion protection. Only tapes of
this type amalgamate in the overlap area to form
a sleeve-like coating that is practically
diffusion resistant to water vapor and oxygen.
Petrolatum - Tapes & mastics
Durable
corrosion protection of pipeline components with
complex shapes is most reliably achieved by
using supple petrolatum tapes that follow the
contours of the components. Combination with a
pipe protection fleece guarantees additional,
very good mechanical protection. This method of
working is expressly approved by the DVGW
(Deutscher Verein des Gas-und Wasserfachs e.V. -
German Association for the Gas and Water
Industries) worksheets G462 and G463.
The irregular geometry of slide valve groups and
ball valves in particular places high demands on
the adaptability of the wrapping material. The
combination of the DENSO® petrolatum products
with DENSOLEN® tapes and DENSOLEN® Rockshield
DRM-PP fleece provides easy to apply and safe
corrosion protection with very good resistance
to mechanical stresses. Pipe components such as
for example lubrication and ventilation lines
can be wrapped using DENSOLEN®-Tape AS40 Plus.
Combined with DENSOLEN®-Primer HT, three or four
layers will achieve stress class B-50 or C-50
respectively.
Surfaces and parts with complex shapes are
protected using petrolatum
mastics and tapes. For the combined application
of DENSOLEN® petrolatum products, the DENSOLEN®
products must be applied first in every case, as
otherwise the petrolatum may have an adverse
effect on the adhesion of the DENSOLEN® tapes.
Recesses, voids and crevices must be filled
void-free with DENSO® Mastic PF or
DENSOPLAST®-Mastic. In the next stage of work, a
total of three layers of
DENSOPLAST®-Tape
are applied to the part to be protected in a
spiral wrap or strip by strip procedure.
The DENSOLEN® Rockshield protection fleeces have
proved their usefulness in increasing the
mechanical resistance of plastic corrosion
protection coatings. DENSOLEN® pipe protection
fleeces are laid in strip segments and flamed in
the overlap area to fuse them.
Corrosion protection system for flanges
For flange connections, the flange gap and the
connecting bolts pose special challenges for
corrosion protection coatings.
A proven method of evening out the surface is to
fill the flange gap and even out the bolt heads
and nuts with DENSO® Mastic PF or
DENSOPLAST®-Mastic.
Subsequent wrapping with DENSOPLAST®-Tape
ensures reliable corrosion protection. The
additional wrapping with DRM-PP 500 Rockshield
fleece gives the anti-corrosion system high
mechanical stability to resist indentation and
impact stress.

DENSO Application equipment
DENSO application devices are aids specially
designed for on-site conditions for applying the
range of DENSO products.
DENSOMAT® wrapping machines simplify the
application of DENSOLEN and DENSIT tapes and
systems. Hand and motor-driven machines ensure
that the necessary tension and overlap is
maintained. Using wrapping machines increases
the speed and safety of post-factory coating
using tape systems.
DENSOMIX®
application equipment for 2-component
polyurethane systems makes it possible to apply
DENSOLID® products in cartridge packaging. The
DENSOMIX® DXH / DXR system represents a
completely new method of application. The
stationary filling equipment DENSOMIX® DXR
provides refills for the DENSOMIX® DXH
dispenser. The supply of components A and B in
hobbocks minimizes the cartridges at the filling
equipment.
DENSO®- Mastic KW
Plastic
spatula corrosion protection mastic on a
petrolatum base for use in cooling technology.
Use
DENSO®- Mastic KW is used for corrosion
protection for pipes and plant in cooling
technology. DENSO®-Mastic KW is used to apply
cold-insulating materials in the form of shells,
segments or panels.
DENSO®-Mastic KW is a corrosion protection
compound with a paste-like consistency and
improved with minerals and polymers. The formula
of the mastic is specially devised for cooling
technology. DENSO®-Mastic KW moistens the metal
surface to be protected and prevents the access
of water.
DENSO®-Mastic KW will not make metal and
insulating material adhere to one another -
plant and pipes remain accessible.
Application
Spread the mastic with a spatula into the
hollows of insulation half-shells or segments,
or to the side of the thermal insulating panels
to be fixed and the surface to which they are to
be bonded. Place the insulation pieces thus
prepared on the parts, pressing gently. Then
wrap the insulation shells on the pipeline with
DENSO®-Tape 040, or DENSOLEN®-Tape PE3 with 50%
overlap.
